Silence is not Golden

www.silenceisnotgolden.org

Being lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender is not a crime—but abuse is. Everyone has the right to live without fear. If you are a victim of homophobia—tell someone.

LGBT History Month is an opportunity for all of us to learn more about the histories of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in Britain and Northern Ireland.

Until recently, most LGBT people preferred to avoid attention. Many still do. Even today, the penalties for those who refuse to conceal themselves, or fail to do so, can be severe. They can range from ostracism and victimisation to assault and even murder.

In the past, the silencing of LGBT people was often reinforced by legislation. The most recent example was Section 28, passed in 1988 and repealed in 2003, which was intended to restrict debate on homosexuality, particularly in schools.

SHIVER (Sexual Health HIV Education and Responses) project within Drugline Lancashire Ltd Blackpool. The web site we are developing (though only in it’s infant stage as yet) is quite self explanatory with links to various other statutory and voluntary service providers who serve our community. We have recently helped launch a brand new T-girl forum here in Blackpool and have had dealings with one of your T-girls Tracey who came to, and indeed gave a rather good write up to our last (or should that read first ever?) forum, hope that we can be of mutual assistance sometime in the future.
